When I started Tanzanian Private Select Safaris in 2003, I wanted something deferent. Staying in a lodge can be done anywhere in the world. Then I watched the blockbuster Hollywood film Out Of Africa.
An Idea was born
With the theme from the film, I sat down and modified the tent, made it more airy and a little bigger. This is how Select Tent Safari was born. Small comfortable and can be moved from one area to the other in no time. Today I can say in Tanzania, Tanzania Private Select Safaris is one of the few safari outfitter that does Mobile Camping Safaris with a theme.
At the same time something was missing. We had Standard Camping Safari and we had Luxury Mobile Safaris with tents that are 12 Feet by 16 feet that way over a ton. There was nothing in the middle. That is how Select Tent Safaris was born with the theme “Out Of Africa” style.
This mobile safari give you the trill!! It brings back the old style back to life, It brings the feeling how it was done in 1920’s when explores came to Africa to explore the Dark Continent. We have set up mobiles camps in Serengeti – Ngorongoro – Tarangire – Manyara – West Kilimanjaro – Lake Natron and other very remote areas in Tanzania.
For the last 25 years we have had no incidents but adventures and trills of a safari , with wildlife visiting the camp at night when its pitch dark. With Hurricane Light that is lit in front of your tent you can see the shallotte of Lions – Leopard – Hyenas – Jackals- Porcupine – Genets- and other nocturnal wild animals visiting the camp at night.
Sometimes you will have herd of Elephants passing through camp at night. All you will hear is the rumble of the stomach that is the time you will yes that is an Elephant. It’s an adventure of its own kind , its gives you the trills , It brings you closer to Nature and its brings you closer to Africa just like the old times

That is why if you read my safari Itineraries they are all custom made safaris that take you to very remote areas that make you feel that you are the only one in this vast wilderness that is the theme of our safaris. As my young sister once said, give my bother a tent and he is perfectly at home
Camping is an adventure of its own kind.
We at Tanzania Private Select Safaris out of so many safari companies in Tanzanian are one of the few safari outfitters that give you the real feeling of a safari by doing mobile camping safari.
The whole Idea is to give you the real feeling of a safari deep in the wilderness areas in Tarangire National Park – Ndutu Woodlands and in Serengeti National Park.
With our mobile camps we can move the whole camp in one day to another area.
For example we will set the camp at Nasera Rock that is on one of the corners of Ngorongoro Conservation area.
You have explored this area for two full days. The next day you will depart from this camp and proceed to Serengeti National Park. Our Food, Grocery Shopping & Road Side Shopping
Our Shopping list consist of over 290 shopping items when doing a Mobile Camping Safari. Everything is looked into carefully and shopped
Doing logistics of the safari, some of the items have to be brought from Nairobi.
Just before a safari takes place. Some of the items are not available in Arusha we have to bring them from Nairobi.
The list goes from Aluminium Foil to Charcoal that has to be bought when the supply vehicle goes out
The Shopping list is consist of 6 page. It’s all carefully looked into.

When on safari with us we will serve you:

Vegetables and meats are carefully selected and packed so that they do not perish, some of the vegetables are frozen as well. A camp will get resupply of fresh meats and Vegetables every 5 days.
Food is an important factor while on safari with us. It’s not just food, its food that has taste. Food that brings in flavours to your mouth. Food that is cooked on open Fire[/vc_column_text]

When packing for a Mobile Camping Safari
We have to go through a list that has over 200 items, that start from tent pegs to checking the generator, it has to be serviced.
The Deep Freezer has to be in tip top shape (this are just few Items that we have to look into).
We have check that the tent zips are working well and the beddings are perfect.
If repairs have to be done they are repaired in due time.
Just to give you an Idea
When packing equipment for just two clients the equipment in the supply vehicle is over 1 ton
(1000 Kgs) This is without Food and water.
Logistics has to done when preparing a safari that has to go out.
